Why I quit

Image
Yes, this is “One of those” posts. I thought instead of showing you more pictures I could tell you why I take pictures. I could tell you how I got started in 2006 at a cousins wedding, shooting as a guest. How I got my first wedding doing a friends wedding. I could tell you about the photos we took to help animals get adopted. None of those however is my why. After a week long vacation in Florida my wife and I (like so many others) decided that we would move from the home we made in Indiana to Florida more or less on a whim. Although my wife got a job almost immediately, I had not. We decided that for the time being anyway that I should give my photography ago, something I have been doing in Michigan and Indiana years before. What we didn’t expect is that Florida is a completely different world. This meant I had to find a job. By fate or by God, I was able to find one when everything seemed like it was going in the wrong direction. I was able to find work as an order e...

3 things to look for in a wedding photographer.

Image
Get along. This should go without saying but isn’t always obvious. Make sure your personalities mesh, make sure you like the same kinds of movies, sports, have the same sick sense of humor. Getting along with your wedding photographer will not only put you at ease, but also insure that your big day goes a little more smoothly. Not everyone is Leonardo. Part of what makes every photographer special is the way they take and edit their photos. With that being said, make sure you love their work. If they don’t have a full gallery on their website than ask for 1 or 2 to see. If their style is inconsistent make sure to ask why and what you might expect your photos to look like. This is probably the most important of these tips, its your big day and how you remember it is paramount. Location, Location, and inexperience. A good photographer can work anywhere, on your big day though make sure they know your area or they have years of experience. There are venues in any area where it is com...

50mm f/1.8 You need one.

Image
Not everybody has a camera with interchangeable lenses, but if you do than you should have a 50mm f/1.8. We’ll start with the simplest reason, it’s cheap. You can usually find it for around $100 dollars used. With it you get a lens with a great shallow depth of field (that fancy blurry effect in great photos). Also, it gives you a fantastic lens for portraits as well as a lens for low light photos. This is not to say that this is the only lens that you should use, but certainly one of the most versatile lenses that you should own.
