Inspiration. Power. Impact.

Image
Roy E. Disney, nephew of Walt Disney and long-time senior executive at Disney, once said, “It’s not hard to make decisions, once you know what your values are.” See, as an entrepreneur and risk-taker, it’s easy for me to move from one idea to another without stopping. Always pursuing the next big thing. However, it’s important every once in a while, to pause and really reflect on what is powering those decisions – what is the backbone of what I do. For me, it comes down to three simple values: Inspiration, Power, and Impact. Inspiration – As a photographer, I’m always looking for inspiration. When I’m out at lunch, playing with my son at the park, or taking a walk alongside the ocean, I’m looking for details and moments that inspire. Maybe it’s the artist in me or maybe it’s the desire to stay always ahead of the trend, but I’m constantly looking for the “new” or “overlooked” beauty in...

Leave It to the Pros: The #1 Mistake Brides Make in the Wedding Planning Process

Image
Shortly after you announce your engagement, everyone – including extended family and friends – wants to provide helpful tips and advice on wedding planning. Suddenly, even your Cousin Mildred is a wedding planning professional with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Afterall, she planned her own wedding in 1994, right? And while there is value in listening from other people’s experiences and mistakes, there is a common thread of advice that I have to say I sorely disagree with. Not because I have a personal vendetta or issue, but because I have personally witnessed couples disappointed and frustrated with the outcome. What’s the advice? Save money and have __ (insert your favorite family member, friend, neighbor, grocery clerk, etc.) do your wedding. Yep, you heard me right. The most common, but misleading, piece of advice provided is to utilize family members and friends in place of wedding professionals to save money. And while maintaining a budget is impor...

Missy + Jeff

Image
“The power of a glance has been so much abused in love stories, that it has come to be disbelieved in. Few people dare now to say that two beings have fallen in love because they have looked at each other. Yet it is in this way that love begins, and in this way only.” — Victor Hugo,  Les Misérables Congratulations to Jeff and Missy! The Value of a Mini Session

Image
You may think my photography is limited to eight-hour weddings. What you might not know is that I also offer seasonal mini and family sessions. Yes, your wedding is likely one of the most important days of your life, but all life is valuable and worth photographing. After your wedding, there are many events and milestones worth capturing. Think about it: Every day, you and your spouse are getting just a little bit older and, if you have children or fur babies, so are they. That session you have been pushing off for months will look quite different than you first envisioned, because you and your family will be different. Your six-year-old will no longer cling to your side when she hits her defiant seven-year-old stage; your “threenager” will suddenly become more active and less interested in your playful antics. As they grow, so does your view of them. Wouldn’t it be great to capture them in the moment and freeze them in all of their child-like glory? That’s where...

4 Simple Ways to Preserve Your Photos Without Breaking the Bank

Image
So, you just got access to your gallery and are ecstatic to share your favorites with all your family and friends. You sit down on the couch, pull out your tablet, and begin carefully selecting your favorites to add to Facebook and Instagram. As you carefully peruse the gallery, you glance up to see a noticeably bland wall and empty coffee table. What once screamed chic and minimalist, now just seems bare and bleak. You have friends coming over for dinner next weekend and a few, carefully curated touches would add just the spice you need to the room. But where do you start? A Timeless Album There is a reason that albums have continued to persist despite the digital age. They are a simple, yet beautiful, way to share your pictures with family and friends. They also make a great addition to any coffee table or side table. While your friends are sipping wine and waiting for dinner to start, they can make themselves comfortable and flip through your photos, dutifully taking in all of the i...
